Rachel E. Curtis

Rachel Curtis works with urban school systems and the partners who support them on strategy, senior leadership development, and professional learning, all in service of meeting the needs, expanding the opportunities, and nurturing the dreams of every child. Rachel is the director of the Aspen Institute's Urban Superintendents Network and a leadership coach to senior leaders in school systems and non-profit organizations. She has extensive experience in developing cohort-based leadership development programs for organizations ranging from Chicago Public Schools to Teach for America.

Previously, Rachel worked in the Boston Public Schools for more than a decade, most recently as assistant superintendent for teaching and learning. In that role, she oversaw all training and development for teachers and school leaders and built innovative career pathway for both. Her publications include the books Strategy in Action, Teaching Talent, The Skillful Leader II, and Leading Strategically: Achieving Ambitious Goals in Education which will be published by Harvard Education Press in 2025. Rachel holds a B.A. from Wesleyan University and a M. Ed. In Leadership and Organizational Development from Harvard University.
