Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, Virgil Hughes spent his earlier years being raised by his grandmother, Stella Turner, after his father died and his mother spent time being incarcerated. Through those years, she made sure his values were placed in right order, by making sure he was always in church. Here he would learn what it meant to be a man, love God, and to be successful in all areas of life. He also would form a strong relationship with Carl R. Turner Sr., who he refers to as his father. Through his adolescent years, he played sports, participated in various community events, and worked hard to maintain successful grades in school. He would later graduate from West Mecklenburg High School, go on to pick up several trades, as well as attend several colleges. In 2007, He enlisted in the United States Army. In that same year he also opened up his own business, Hughes Construction and Remodelling and started a non-profit organization, Brighter Futures for All. Currently He is enrolled in school seeking his Masters degree in Divinity.
