Capt Pierce, at a young age fell in love with the ocean, as a result started sailing and scuba diving. Entering the Marines, was trained in many skills including security, anti-terrorism assault along with many other specialties. He assisted in the development and training of one of the first anti-terrorist assault teams in the Marine Corp. After the Marine Corp he joined the Merchant Marines becoming a captain where he worked in cargo transport operations.
During this time he also owned a vessel delivery company which allowed him to make trips too and from the Bahamas, Caribbean, Central and south America on a regular basis. Enjoying his time at sea he made an attempt at the “Single-Handed Around the World Sailboat Race” in the mid 1990’s. Over the years, as a result has had several close calls with both drug runners, and pirates, in both commercial as well as private vessels. It was during these attacks on vessel in which he was responsible for the safety and security of those onboard, that he developed the policies and procedures that he shares in this book.
A company taking notice of his success requested that he use his experience to establish the procedures that they could use to deal with the attacks on their vessels. He presented them with procedures that their vessels should follow, which drastically reduced the attacks in the area, saving the company many thousands of dollars. And reduced the danger to the crews on those vessels. With the threat of piracy around the world increasing. And the escalating danger too unsuspecting and unprepared mariners. Capt Pierce has written this book too share his knowledge of vessel security and piracy, with the hopes of aiding other boat captains in avoiding, and preventing these violent attacks and saving lives.
