Frederick J. Masterman

Frederick Masterman (1937 -) is a retired Episcopal priest, living in Tucson, Arizona with his wife, Becky McEldowney Masterman (also an author) and two canine companions, Casper, a white American Eskimo, and Raven, a black Cockapoo. He has a background in geological science, paleontology in particular, and a hobby of astronomy, both of which inform much of his writing. His books are of the adventure-thriller genre, but the element of science is always present, whether fact, fiction or fantasy. He is the author of the "PlanetCare Discoveries" series, the first three volumes currently in print. These adventures are modeled on the expeditions of the real-life EarthWatch International organization, where paying volunteers join professional scientists in research. The PlanetCare expeditions always stumble upon a discovery which places its members in various types of life-threatening danger. Season of the Plant, the first book, is set in Belize, where the author worked several years ago. The Jewels of Stonehenge, second in the series, takes place in Norway, and the most recent published book, Death by Dolphin, has the island of Kaua'i in the Hawai'ian Islands as its locale.

The Cryon Conspiracy, the fourth book, is set in Alaska, and is in the process of publication. He is currently working on a fifth book, Citadel in the Sky, which takes place in the mountains of southern Arizona near Tucson.

Masterman is also author of That Which Endures, a futuristic, time-jumping story set in Tucson in the mid twenty first century, where his knowledge of Pleistocene paleontology figures as a central feature of the plot.
