My name is Dawn Devine aka Davina, and I'm an author, costumer, dancer, and historian. I've written a pile of books on how to design and make belly dance costumes. Lately, I've been venturing out into books about other aspects of belly dance, like my latest book, "Zills: Music on Your Fingertips - All About Finger Cymbals." I also participated in the definitive book on studying belly dance and living the dancer life, "Becoming a Belly Dancer: From Student to Stage." This 402-page book has three chapters on costume and appearance including a bunch of DIY, "Made in a Weekend" projects.

My biggest research project turned publication, "Cloth of Egypt" is all about my favorite textile assiut, assuit, azute or tulle bi telli - no matter how you spell it, this metal embroidered cloth is magical! I have begun work on the next title in the assiut series which is going to focus on the design and construction of performance wear. I'll be continuing work with photographer Alisha Westerfeld and we are looking forward to a 2018 release.
