Nithi Sthapitanonda

Nithi Sthapitanonda is one of the most well-known and respected architects in Asia. Mr. Sthapitanonda received Bachelor of Architecture from Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Architecture and a Masters of Architecture from the University of Illinois. He established Architects 49 in 1983.

One of the largest and broadest architectural practices in Southeast Asia, the 49 Group is a multi-disciplinary firm of design professionals and consultants forming a combined staff of more than 350 professionals. Headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand, the Group integrates Architects 49 and 10 other specialized consulting companies, each supported by a staff of experts.

Mr. Sthapitanonda’s leadership positions include: President of The Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage (ASA); Secretary of the Architect Council of Thailand and being designated a National Artist in the field of Architecture (Contemporary). He is on the Board of Trustees of Silpakorn University and Bangkok University, Chairman of the Ministry of Commerce / Ministry of Culture’s Silpathorn award and Chairman - Judges Committee for the prestigious Prime Minister's Creative Award, held by the Ministry of Commerce and has also served as Chairman of Silpakorn University’s 'Designer of the Year Award'.

Notably, Mr. Sthapitanonda was awarded Honorary Fellows from the Japan Institute of Architects (FJIA) and the American Institute of Architects (FAIA) and was presented the ‘Golden Award for Excellence in Architecture 2007' by the a+d & Spectrum Foundation of India.

In 2006, Nithi founded Li-Zenn Publishing Limited to produce architecture, arts, history and culture books worldwide. He has produced and written more than 15 locally and internationally acclaimed books including: Architecture of Thailand (2005), Conversations with Architects (2007), Nithi Architectural Sketch Book (2007), Architectural Drawings of Historical Buildings and Places in Thailand (2008), Houses by Thai Architects vol.1 (2008) and Resorts by Thai Architects (2009).
