Ted Booth was born in Johnson City, Tennessee. He earned a Master’s degree in Historical Theology from Emmanuel Christian Seminary and a Ph.D. in early modern intellectual and religious history from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His first book, A Body Politic to Govern: The Political Humanism of Elizabeth I, earned him nomination to the Royal Historical Society by Oxford historian Susan Doran, and he was elected a Fellow in 2014.
He currently serves as the Professor of History and Religion at Mountain Empire Community College in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. His scholarship focuses on the intellectual and religious culture of the Renaissance and Reformation, especially the intersections of political theology and monarchy. His published articles include "A Switch of Language: Latin, English, and Elizabeth I’s Political Self-Understanding" and "Reticence and Reformation: Pope Paul IV and Elizabeth I."
He lives in Virginia with his wife, Kristen, and their three daughters.
