Across the Stone Bridge is a complete departure from his first book. The book contains a series of vignettes/short stories each of which capture an imagined recreation of the life of an artist at a particular moment in history.

The Umbrella Tree is set in a midlands village during the period 1791 - 1815 and, amongst many other things, moves from the village to the Luddite riots, the Peninsula Wars and culminates at the Battle of Waterloo.
