Deacon Frank Enderle

Deacon Francisco Xavier (Frank) Enderle is a Mexican American who was born in Texas more years ago than he will admit. He entered the Navy in 1966 as a Seaman Recruit when the War in Vietnam was just beginning to take on serious proportions. As is normal for a sailor, he spent time aboard various ships at sea and on land at shore stations. As an officer he had one shore command tour and, towards the end of his career, a headquarters tour in Washington DC. He retired in 1992 as a Lieutenant Commander just after the end of the First Gulf War. Before doing so, he was ordained and incardinated in 1991 for the Archdiocese of Washington and has been involved in Hispanic Ministry, bereavement ministry, hospital and hospice ministry ever since in Catholic parishes and dioceses in the United States and Spain. His wife, Susan (nee Osane Jimenez de Bentrosa Elso) was born in Sangüesa, Navarra, Spain just a few miles away from Xavier, where St. Francis Xavier was born. She was the principle editor and translator for this series of books. She passed away in the summer of 2019. They were married 49 years.

In 2000, after living in Spain and Washington DC for several years, Deacon Frank and Susan moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where he is now incardinated. While living there, Deacon Frank was asked to write and deliver Spanish and English homilies every Sunday and frequently on weekdays for the next seven years. Ever since then, together with Susan, he has been writing homilies for publication in soft cover book and electronic format, as well as on the now defunct Homilies Alive website and his own Homilías/Homilies website.

He has been the Executive Director of the Permanent Diaconate, Director for Deacon Personnel and Director for Deacon Formation in the Archdiocese of Washington, The Assistant to the Director for Liturgy at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC, as well as the Director of Clergy Formation and Director of Diaconate Formation in the Diocese of Sacramento. He has taught Liturgics and Homiletics in the Archdiocese of Washington, the Archdiocese of Denver, the Diocese of Sacramento and the Diocese of San Bernardino.

Deacon Frank and his wife both have a background in Hispanic ministry, theology and catechesis. Deacon Frank earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Arabic and Linguistics and a Master of Arts degree in Pastoral Theology.

Deacon Frank's eleven book Homilías/Homilies series contain Spanish homily reflections for Sundays and Holydays following the Roman Catholic Lectionary cycle. The series includes two full sets of homilies for liturgical years A, B and C. He is presently preparing for publication another set which will be available on amazon.com in late 2020. They also have written a book which contains homily reflections for three liturgical years. All of books have been published both in soft cover and in kindle formats and are available on amazon.com. The homilies were faithfully translated into English and are presented side by side so that those who read them can compare both languages line by line. They are excellent for those who want to learn either language while meditating on the readings. They are intended to be used as reflections to prepare homilies but they are also useful, in a pinch, as short, stand-alone homilies of approximately 7 to 10 minutes in length.
