Chris Danielson is a Fulbright Scholar, published author, and expert on the Civil Rights Movement and race and U.S. politics. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, he attended the University of Houston, where he received his BA in History and MA in United States History. He attended the University of Mississippi for his PhD, which he received in 2006. His dissertation became his first book, After Freedom Summer, on the effects of the Voting Rights Act on Mississippi politics. He built on this research for his next two books, including a biography of Mississippi civil rights activist Lawrence Guyot, Jr. He has publications in the Journal of Southern History and the Journal of Mississippi History, as well as in edited collections. In 2024, he served as a Fulbright Scholar to the University of Pécs in Hungary, where he taught a class on race and the Cold War. His current research interests include the moral panics of 1980s America and how they mobilized grassroots conservative activists. He currently works as a Professor of History at Montana Technological University.
