A very, “very” Short Bio!

It all started in 1956 when I got my driver’s license and bought my first car, a 1950 Chevy Club Coupe, and drove across town one Sunday night to hear a very old Baptist preacher teach on prophecy, which primarily meant learning to maintain a very detailed timeline when trying to understand prophesied events, specifically those that had not yet happened.

During that same year I joined the Arizona National Guard and became a 4.2 inch mortar gunner and decided I wanted to become a writer, so I signed up for typing class, which was nixed immediately by my school counselor mumbling something about not turning me loose in a class full of girls; however a few years later the Navy took a different view, and I was told that I had to learn to send and receive Morse Code, which of course included learning how to type.

Following my discharge four years later, I bought myself a Smith & Corona typewriter, and started taking every writing course I could find, including taking English 29 three times trying to drill basic grammar into my head, while at the same time racking up enough credit hours to qualify for a degree.

By the beginning of 1985 I was happily working as a production control manager for a large-scale computer manufacturer, raising my son as a single parent, and happily writing during my spare time. Life was good!

In that same year, 1985, shortly after my son turned fourteen, I found my best friend, and blood brother by choice, lying on his living room floor dead of a massive heart attack. I buried him on July 5th and buried my son next to him on October 23rd of the same year, followed by the loss of my job due to downsizing at the end of that very same year.

Following my son’s death, I literally gave up everything including writing. I donated my computer to the church, and trashed everything I had written up to that point and concentrated on work, survival, reading my Bible and being in church whenever the doors were open. This was my life for the next six years.

During that sixth year, somewhat to my surprise, the Lord gave me two gifts. The first was an over powering desire to write again. This desire to write was followed almost immediately by meeting and falling in love with my future wife, an exceptionally beautiful woman who taught Sunday school at the church I was attending. We were married shortly thereafter out in front of the church under a beautiful harvest moon. She, of course, was my second gift.

This year will mark our twenty-seventh year together, and she is directly responsible for the books and stories I have written as it was her loyalty and commitment to me that allowed me to write them, not to mention that she listened to every chapter as I envisioned it, then edited it (with her little red pen) after it was written.

Holpen III finishes off a seven book saga that I have been effectively writing for the last quarter of a century, or over a half of a century if you include study and learning time, and it is my prayer that you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them; however, it’s worth noting that all those years of studying prophesied events in the Bible were not in vain as I have woven them into the stories I have written, especially in my newest non-fiction book "Coming Prophecies!!!" which is all about what is currently happening and coming at us, prophetically speaking.

Your friend and author,

UPDATE: My best friend, my wife, my lover, my editor, my encourager went home to be with the Lord on October the 9th (2019); to say I miss her is the understatement of this century!

UPDATE #2: Working at Walmart. Got me back out into the world where I get to meet-and-greet my fellow Veterans and a beautiful cross section of humanity. Highly recommend a job like this for anyone who finds themselves needing to get out and reconnect with the world.
