Herb Boeckenhaupt has a background in the printing and graphics business for some 35 years in Maryland, serving clients in the Washington, DC, area. He retired from that business in the late 1990s just as the Internet was emerging. Following the sale of his business, he became a full-time Website designer and developer and has helped hundreds of clients over the past 12 years, including government clients, trade associations and business and personal website development.
Herb's Joomla! involvement began soon after Joomla! was "invented" and branched out from the Mambo platform. Shortly after that, he narrowed his focus and built Websites exclusively on the Joomla! platform. His expert knowledge of Joomla! 1.0, and then Joomla! 1.5, was channeled into the Joomla! 1.6 version as soon as it was released in early beta form. The "Picture Yourself..." book is a product of the accumulated knowledge and practical experience with the Joomla platform.
Since then, he has published Joomla! BOOTS ON THE GROUND, along with Joomla! 5: Boots on the Ground, Advance Edition, Volume 1. Volume 2 is currently in manuscript and will be published in 2023.
In 2010, Herb brought this expertise to the North Carolina Phi Beta Lambda organization and developed a Website for the chapter at Rowan Cabarrus-Community College and the State organization's Professional Division. He is also updating the NCPBL website using Joomla 1.6, which allows the group to use ACL with over 40 user groups and 100 users, each accessing only their chapter's content areas.
He was recognized as the North Carolina Businessman of the Year (2010-2011), by the North Carolina PBL organization. This recognition carried to the national level were he was selected as the PBL Businessman of the Year for the United States, and accepted the Award at the National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida in June, 2011.
He also built the Joomla!-based Website for the local battered women's support organization in Rowan County, North Carolina, as a pro bono volunteer.
