Sharon Hayes

I grew up in Brisbane, Australia, where I studied political science at the University of Queensland, graduating with first-class Honours in 1989. After completing a Masters in Philosophy at Tulane University in 1994, I went on to complete a PhD in Humanities at Queensland University of Technology in 2001. I have recently semi-retired from my full-time academic position, and am enjoying more leisurely researching and writing, with a little part-time teaching on the side. My main research interests lie in gender, crime and justice, which I interrogate from within a critical criminological perspective. My first book, "Sex, Crime and Morality" theorises a geography of sex and sexuality, which she further expands in "The Politics of Sex Trafficking: A moral geography." My third monograph, "Sex, Love and Abuse" explores how women become socialised into accepting abuse and violence. I've also published a textbook, "Criminal Justice Ethics: Cultivating the Moral Imagination", and another more personal book on domestic violence, "Romantic Terrorism," with Samantha Jeffries.

Currently, I am writing more broadly on women's issues and am in the process of writing a memoir of sorts.
