Elisa DeCarlo

I'm a New York Times profiled playwright, author, former comic fashion blogger and drag king, and storyteller.

My first published novel, a comic fantasy, "The Devil You Say" (Avon, 1993) won a Locus Poll Online Best First Novel award and Amazing Stories Best First Novel award. Avon published my follow-up novel "Strong Spirits" in 1994. In addition, my essays have been collected in anthologies including "Life's A Stitch: Contemporary Humor by Women" (Random House).

As the Mad Fashionista, I wrote the comic blog "Diary Of A Mad Fashionista", for which I covered Fashion Week. "The Abortionist's Daughter" was named one of the Best Books of 2014 by the Spark at alt-current.com

As a playwright/performer, I did solo shows around the country, including "I Love Drugs" and "Cervix With A Smile". The Exit Press published an anthology of my plays, "Cervix With A Smile", in 2016.

I live in New York City with my husband and miniature pinscher. You can find me on Facebook and on Instagram as @themadfashionista.
