Edward Carpenter

Edward H. Carpenter is a 29-year veteran of the US military, who spent his entire life as a warfighter but chose to finish his career serving as a peacekeeper in South Sudan, where his love of reading led him to help create a library in a refugee camp.

Recently retired from the US Marine Corps, he has been honing his writing craft in Harvard’s Creative Writing and Literature program, volunteering in disaster relief efforts with Team Rubicon, and participating in dialogues on the future of peacekeeping with organizations such as the Human Security Lab and India’s United Services Institute.

He says, “Reading has always been a passion of mine, and writing is a small way to give something back, to contribute to the vast store of literature, which is both comfortingly constant and thrillingly ever-changing. I've written non-fiction, poetry, and fiction, and look forward to doing so for years to come.”
