Bob Ezzell was born in Goldsboro, NC and grew up there. He attended Louisburg College and NC State University, receiving a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the latter in 1969. His professional career was mostly spent with The Dow Chemical Company. He held various positions with Dow, all in research in both Texas and Michigan. Although about half of his career was in Research Management, he always thought of himself as a scientist first and the chores of management necessary, but not very exciting. He holds close to fifty patents and is the author or co-author on numerous scientific publications. Bob retired from Dow in 1998 and about a year later moved to Tellico Village, close to Knoxville, TN.
Bob came to golf later in life than most golf players. At age 49 he participated in a scramble at work and has been hooked on golf since. He carried his incessant knack for talking onto the golf course and often enjoys the nineteenth hole at least as well as the other eighteen. He enjoys beer and bull. His only book, Lousy Golf, was inspired by observing other golfers and thinking through his own golf game. The time to pull the thoughts together was afforded by a long recovery from surgery. Only humor could do justice to the average golfer and the places and way they play. While many of the observations are real, such as most golfers reaching an equilibrium in their level of play, the book was intended to be something the average golfer could identify with and laugh at.
