I've loved writing stories for as long as I've been able to write, now in my 40s I'm still a big kid and so the desire to tell tales hasn't gone away at all.
I am also a massive sports geek, so I love writing about sport. I have now had 2 Rugby League books published by Pitch Publishing. On 2nd of February 'Fighting for Survival' will be released, that is about how Rugby League has survived for 130years and how it could finally thrive in the future.
I'm from Warrington in the northwest of England. Home of the Warrington Wolves Rugby League team, who in my nearly forty years of watching them have fluctuated between spectacularly underperforming and coming agonisingly and heartbreakingly close to becoming Champions. Spookily enough their fortunes turned around just after I wrote an open letter to the players and got it published in our local paper, and they started winning a few Challenge Cups at Wembley. That lead onto my first non-fiction book being published by Pitch Publishing, 'Spirit of 55 - How Warrington Wolves Leapt out of the Pack', that followed the Rugby League team in their 2012 season as they tried to win the title for the first time since 1955.
I love writing fiction as well, I've completed 12 novels in total, 3 crime thrillers, 5 novels that follow the lives of sports stars as they chase after their dreams of greatness, one that follows fans of sports teams - hoping that the team can lift them from their unhappy existence, 2 fantasy world adventures and 1 called Nurture, that is about the importance of the impact we can have on other people's lives.
I have also written a collection of Short Stories called ‘Stories for Cash’, all the stories are inspired by Johnny Cash songs. The reason for that is my Dad being a big Johnny Cash fan. Dad died a few years ago after having Alzheimer’s for years, so for any sales I make of this book I give fifty percent of my royalties to The Alzheimer’s Society.
I have spent my working life working with young people in various roles, including sports coach, youth worker and suicide prevention adviser. I prefer working with the older ones, probably because my mental and emotional state is best suited to that of someone in their late teens!
