Judith Bourassa Joy

Judith Bourassa Joy, author of two young adult science fiction novels, was born in Augusta, Maine, the youngest of five children. Judy majored in English with a minor in Chemistry at Bowdoin College. In 1987, she married Scott Joy. They moved to New Hampshire and together had four children, two girls and fraternal twin boys. Early in her career, Judy was a human factors analyst for a large insurance company's information technology department, where she later returned as a business systems analyst. While raising her family, Judy received a master's degree in elementary education from Lesley University, taught elementary school and technology classes, and wrote A Doorway Through Space, which won the Mayhaven Award for Children's Fiction.

Judy had a lovely soprano voice, and she was known for her charming hoot of a laugh, quirky sense of humor, and inventive word choices. She was an avid reader of good literature with a special love of young adult fiction.

Following a brief battle with multiple myeloma, the second most frequently occurring blood cancer, Judy passed away in November 2013. She left behind the manuscript for a sequel, A Doorway Through Time, which her family saw through to its publication in January 2015.
