I have a lot more information on my website, WWW.CARLAFOFT.COM, so check it out and see what's new!

I live in Texas with my son, Carl. My daughter now lives on her own in my current home town.

My steady boyfriend is the basis for the James Wilson character in my book. Jim is every bit as special and romantic as his black and white counterpart in my story. Unlike the heroine of my book, who is a widow, I am divorced.

Reading is my favorite activity and I will read almost any book I can get my hands on. My favorite genre are suspense and romance. That's why this book has plenty of both.

I like to collect antiques and love to poke through junk stores looking for those special treasures that other people think are only dust collectors. Look for this hobby to be reflected in a future book even more than it was in this one.

Over the years, I have participated in several adventure sports including riding snow mobiles, hot air ballooning, sky diving, zip lining and white water rafting. I wrote about some of my experiences in "Addressing Spirits."

My education has resulted in a bachelor's degree in business administration in management and an associate degree in nursing. I worked in a local police department for 12 years during which time I was the records administrator and computer analyst.

Although my book is strictly fictional, it was inspired by an occurrence from when I was employed at that police department. I received a call from a woman asking me if a murder or questionable death had occurred at the caller's address. The reason for the caller's concern was that she had just moved into a new home and her son was crawling under his bed talking to "an invisible playmate." The caller stated that her son had never had an invisible playmate before. I checked the records history for the address and found no incident of any concern. However, just three blocks up the street, a man had murdered his wife, three children and then killed himself a few months before. I have wondered for years if there might be any reason why one or more of those murdered children might have "moved" to the other address. My explanation in the book is one scenario that I came up with. Interestingly, however, I discovered that Jason and Grant, of "Ghost Hunters" fame, had a similar case when I read one of their books about some of their paranormal investigations.

I worked in the nursing field, in oncology and home health, for about one year after finishing my nursing degree. This experience is also reflected in my book, as one of the major characters is a nurse who has a ghostly experience on her job. One again, this is based on an incident which actually occurred in my life.

I have two rescue cats. One of them was found abandoned while he was so young his eyes were still closed. We raised him on a bottle and he is now about 10 years old. The second cat that I have now, is a solid black beauty who is queen of the house. She loves to play fetch with half of a plastic Easter egg. The cat, Cinder, in my book was based on a previous black cat that we had by the same name. However, the real Cinder was a female.
