ALEC NESBITT
Author of "The Sparrow Trilogy" and "The Anonymous Bicycle"
I'm several kinds of writer: historian, novelist, scriptwriter, speechwriter, biographer, editor, humorist.
After high school in Connecticut, I became a Kinsman Trust Scholar at Magdalen College School, Oxford, where I specialized in English history and modern European history, winning the School's prestigious Sixth Form History Prize. I then became a student of A. J. P. Taylor, a fondly remembered Don of History at Magdalen College, with whom I studied the formation and decline of the German Empire. I hold the Oxford University Certificate, with Commendation, from the Ruskin School of Fine Art.
I'm fluent in French and German and served as Aide-de-Camp to Major-General Hans Speidel, Division Commander of the Fifth Panzer Division during my service with NATO forces in Germany.
My many years of residence in Britain and France gave me a native understanding of those two greatly different peoples and their multi-faceted, charmingly quirky personalities. "The Sparrow Trilogy" is the result of a lifetime spent observing and listening to the subtleties of European life that endow my stories and characters with what has been called "uncanny authenticity". I've always based my fiction entirely on real places. Some of them no longer exist, but they are part of the world you will enter in "The Sparrow Trilogy". A fair number of the people I once knew in Europe appear in the novels with different names. Some of the places and many of those people are remembered by their real names in my memoir: "The Anonymous Bicycle".
I published "The Archangel Descending" - third volume of "The Sparrow Trilogy" - on Amazon Kindle on Bastille Day in 2011. The three books offer a "searching glimpse" of a world that was swept away the Second World War, its events being the focus of the third novel. All of my books are described - with photographs of some of the more romantic places in the stories - on my website: AlecNesbittBooks.com
I live in Colorado but make frequent trips to Europe to see old friends and continue research that never ends. My work as an historian can be appraised on my other website: sarajevo1914.com and on my blogsite: thesarajevo1914collection.com.
Happy reading!
