Derek Sherwood

Derek Sherwood is the author and researcher behind the best-selling 2011 true crime book on the Betsy Aardsma murder in 1969, entitled "Who Killed Betsy: Uncovering Penn State University's Most Notorious Unsolved Crime." "Who Killed Betsy" was the first book to put forth a plausible suspect in the Aardsma case, 42 years after the murder.

He explored the 1976 child molestation trial of Dr. Richard Charles Haefner, a Penn State University graduate and geology professor from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. "Justice Perverted: The Molestation Mistrial of Richard Charles Haefner" is the study of a legal system willing to go to any length to put a predator away.

"Nittany Nightmare: The Sex Murders of 1938-40 and the Panic at Penn State" was released in July 2019 to critical acclaim. The book is a dual history of Penn State University, Nittany Lions and the Pennsylvania State Police's growth during a series of unsolved sex crimes in 1938 and 1940.
