Samuel R. Staley

Sam is on the full-time faculty of the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy at Florida State University and has more than 30 years of experience in public policy analysis and research, conducting both quantitative and qualitative research. His work has appeared in numerous academic journals and professional publications, and he has briefed senior executive staff at the federal and state governmental levels on issues such as fiscal policy, economic development, growth management, and transportation. His interest in campus sexual assault was sparked by a “perfect storm” of circumstances, including more than a year living in a student apartment complex, his work as a self defense coach, a highly decentralized approach to teaching that empowered students, and an open door policy for undergraduate students while on campus. His commentary on campus sexual assault has appeared in a wide range of popular outlets, including the New York Times, the Dallas Morning News, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Boston Herald and others. He earned his Ph.D. in public administration from The Ohio State University, his MS in applied economics from Wright State University, and BA in economics-public policy from Colby College.
