Peter Bone

I'm Peter Bone, a UK based graphic designer, trainer and author. I've worked in graphic design in various guises for over 20 years, and for 15 of those I've taught thousands of hands-on courses in Quark Xpress, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop to both beginners and professionals.

During that time, of course technology has changed, along with our use and expectation of it; however the underlying skills and approaches that designers use remain more or less the same - and those are the things you'll learn from my books.

I started writing these books to see if I could translate the sort of things I teach in a classroom onto the printed (or electronic) page. Whilst it's a challenge to try and convey the essence of something complex in as few words as possible, it's also a great deal of fun.

The Intuitive Illustrator books are designed to get you confident with Illustrator as quickly and easily as possible, by showing you how to create everything that you can see on the book's cover.

The Photoshop book is the first in my new series of Ultra Condensed books: shorter, task based e-books that are designed to be read during a lunch break or on a commute to work.

The forthcoming Intuitive InDesign books (November 2013) are written for people who are new to InDesign, but need to learn how to do very specific things like creating something from an InDesign template, create an advert or design a leaflet.

A reader of one of my forthcoming InDesign books described his experience of working through it, which describes exactly what I try to achieve with my books:

"Working through it I really noticed great improvements. In the first exercises of the book instructions are given step-by-step in great details. With the last exercise only general guidelines are given and the reader becomes more independent in deciding which technique to use to complete the exercise. This approach turned me into an active protagonist of the learning process and gave me a lot of satisfaction in the completion of the different exercise"
