Gordon Faulkner

Gordon Faulkner is the Director and Principal Instructor of the Chanquanshu School of Daoist Arts, a school that teaches yangsheng (nourishing the vital principle) practices that cover martial, medical and meditational arts.

Recognised for his outstanding abilities in these fields in both the West and inside China, in the early 1990's he was invited to study the Daoyin Yangsheng Gong system with Professor Zhang Guangde of the Beijing University of Physical Education. Later be became one of the first Westerners to be qualified as a Senior International Judge certified by the China Daoyin Yangsheng Gong Association and the China Wushu Society.

Later still Professor Zhang accepted him as a closed door disciple (Ru Shi Di Zi in the Confucian tradition) and made him a successor to the Daoyin Yangsheng Gong lineage.

President for Scotland & Wales in the European Daoyin Yangsheng Gong Federation and Specialist Advisor to the UK Qigong Teachers Association.

On the therapeutic side Gordon is a practitioner of Qigong Therapy and Chinese Therapeutic Massage.

Under the name of 'You Lisu' he is a Disciple of Master You Xuande, the 14th generation Grandmaster of Wudang boxing.

Gordon is an Armed Forces Veteran with 22 years' service in the Royal Air Force and in that time has had martial training with, been trained by, and ultimately trained members of all branches the British Armed Forces. He was a founder member and General Secretary of the Royal Air Force Martial Arts Federation until retirement from military service.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society and a member of the Society for Anglo-Chinese Understanding.

Author of the award (Living Now Awards) winning book 'Managing Stress with Qigong' from Singing Dragon Publications.

For the last three years he has been working with the Maggie's Cancer Care Centres where he has been using qigong from his book, especially the stress prevention exercises, to great effect. His sessions there have become one of the most popular activities and have constently shown their effectiveness.

Gordon's interest in Oriental culture began in 1960 during a prolonged illness (rheumatic heart disease) after reading 'The Travels of Marco Polo'.

Started martial arts training with karate in 1968 and then went on to try out various martial systems until he found the Chanquanshu system in 1972. This was what he had been looking for.

Trained with Master Mantak Chia and for a while was one of the Directors of the European Healing Tao Instructors Association

After receiving a standing ovation for introductory talk at 37th Traditional Chinese Medicine Kongress in Bavaria he was nicknamed 'the hardcore qigong man'.

His group became the first European group to be allowed to 'officially' train with the Daoist priests on Wudang mountain.

Presently he teaches in Scotland, Wales, Switzerland, Germany and Belgium.
