Judy was born in Kentucky, the first of three children (and the only daughter) in her family. She will always think of Kentucky as home, even though she moved away in 1973 when her husband entered the military. During those years, Judy and her family lived on the East Coast, the West Coast, the Gulf Coast, and places in between, but she will always be a Southerner at heart.
Regardless of Judy's title throughout her professional career, research and writing played key roles. And so, when considering a career shift in 2006 due to major life changes, writing skyrocketed to the top of her list—along with a desire to make a difference.
Challenged by the difficulties of her grief experience and its impact on her life, Judy became especially concerned about others struggling to cope with the effects of grief and loss in their lives. The sudden death of her husband, along with facilitating grief-support workshops, helped her define a new, practical, and personal approach to grief.
THE RESULT: From her experience and all she's learned about this life-changing process - you'll find a book and a companion journal: STUNNED by Grief and the STUNNED by Grief Journal. She wrote these books to cut through the confusion and chaos we go through initially when we come face-to-face with grief.
