John Hackett was born in Raynes Park – a leafy suburb of London – in 1955. While at primary school he took up the Trumpet later becoming a Junior Exhibitioner at the Royal College of Music. After leaving school he went to study Trumpet at the Royal Academy of Music.
The other love of his life was, and still is, Mathematics and Science. While at the RAM, and without their knowledge, John began studying with the Open University where he gained a First Class Honours Degree winning the DeBroigle prize in Quantum Mechanics in his final year.
John was a professional musician for some years before getting a real job as Head of IT at a Public School. While teaching and running the IT department he went back to the OU (this time with the full knowledge and support of his employers!) to take a Master Degree in Computing.
He is now an IT consultant and amateur musician and lives with his violinist wife in London.
