Gregory Marshall Smith

A 30-year journalism veteran, Gregory Marshall Smith has been writing science fiction and horror since 1975, thanks to WLVI-Channel 56 Boston and an anthology show called "Creature Double Feature." The 90-minute Saturday afternoon staple of Grade B movies led Gregory to a love affair with Golden Age science fiction and traditional horror.

Primarily a sports writer, he has worked for local publications (Medford Mercury, Mid-Cities Daily News, Bryan-College Station Eagle, Fort Worth Star-Telegram), national (JDTV, Cablevision, Echostar) and international (Mini-World Magazine in Japan).

His award-winning short stories have appeared in "Farspace 2," "Rebel Tales," "Writer's Bump, Vol. I," "Spectacular Speculations," "Far Side of Midnight" and "SFH Dominion."

Since 2010, he has published four novels -- the two-part alternate reality cliffhangers "My Dear, Mister Shane" and "Lassiter Shane & The Masters of the World'; the horror novel "Hunter," and the epic space opera "Slow Boat to China."

He has also produced two anthologies ("Dark Tidings: Vol. I & II") and two novellas (the science fiction drama "They Call the Wind Muryah" and the creepy sci-fi/horror "Crawl").

He is currently writing a third Lassiter Shane novel, as well as the first book in a new series revolving around parallel universes and the mysterious entities who control the lives and deaths of trillions.

In the immediate future, he plans to return to the horror genre and also to expand upon universes created by his award-winning short stories.

Interesting tidbits: He is a decorated Navy veteran of Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He has also been acting for more than 20 years. His credits include "The Odd Life of Timothy Green" with Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton; "Joyful Noise" with Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton; "Life As We Know It" with Josh Duhamel; "Fast Five" with Vin Diesel and The Rock; "What to Expect When You're Expecting" with Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez; "Sonatine" and "Boiling Point," both with Takeshi Kitano, and the TV series "Homeland" with Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin, among others.

Though his primary time in front of the camera has been as background, he also played the vicious killer K-Bar in the low-budget Japanese crime trilogy "Heiju," as well as the Facilitator in the obscure Hong Kong action flick, "Steep."
