Sean Burns, aka "Professor Burns", is a Berkeley based writer, musician, teacher and community organizer. He is the leader of the popular, indie folk rock band Professor Burns and the Lilac Field. The band will release their anticipated debut album in 2012. Since graduating from Georgetown University in 1995, Burns has taught social movement history, critical theory, and community organizing at a number of California schools, most notably University of California, Santa Cruz. Burns earned his Ph.D. in the History of Consciousness Department with advisors Barbara Epstein, George Lipsitz, David Brundage, and Paul Ortiz. In 2005, while researching the history of I.W.W. organizing, Burns met San Francisco legend Archie Green (1917-2009). For the next few years, Burns recorded Green's oral history, and those interviews significantly inform Burns' biography on Green (Archie Green: The Making of a Working-Class Hero).
