Carmel D. Morris

Carmel Duryea Morris is a multi-talented author of over 30 books for children and adults published by Harper Collins, Simon & Schuster, Putnam (under the Perigee imprint) and Scholastic. A singer, composer, graphic artist, technical writer and sw/hw engineer she also sang in a metal band at the age of sixteen and released two albums which can be found online.

For her books she achieved several world-wide print best sellers for children, including the 'Best Paper Aircraft' series (aka 'Advanced Paper Aircraft' which she promoted on the Late Show in LA with Arsenio Hall, and other US media), 'Fold Your Own Dinosaurs' and fiction including 'Cod Almighty' (Scholastic). In the 90s, her 3D algorithm experiments led to developing 3D Magic with Karl Dorman; she also produced many of her own 'magic eye' stereogram books including 'Flight Paths Through Time: A History of Aviation in 3D' and 'Forest of the Last'. She has written under several pseudonyms. Her origami books have been translated into several languages, most recently three Korean editions.

Her publisher is steadily releasing some of her older titles that are still in demand. She also spends her spare time on amateur radio, designing electronics projects and driving her all-electric vehicle which in 2009-2010 she converted from an old gas-guzzler (in the innovative family tradition of her ancestor Charles Duryea (Duryea Motor Corporation)), and still drives happily around town amongst the Teslas without spending a dime on gas.
