Daniel Smitherman

Daniel Smitherman (1962- ) has studied Owen Barfield's work since 1988. His initial interest in Barfield's book Saving the Appearances came while teaching high school sciences, and directed much of his reading of the history of science. His master's work in Philosophy led to the publication of Philosophy and the Evolution of Consciousness: Owen Barfield's Saving the Appearances.

Smitherman has contributed several papers on Barfield's work and thought, and also has read deeply the work of Rudolf Steiner, to which Barfield himself devoted significant time and energy. Smitherman continues to write on topics related to the evolution of consciousness, at his blog Save the Phenomena (savethephenomena.blogspot.com).
