I was born in the South West of England and enjoyed a childhood centring around the many beaches nearby and the wonderful landscape of Dartmoor. On leaving school I joined the Royal Navy where I served 12 years visiting countries around the world including the USA. I have never been South of the equator but have been inside the Arctic Circle several times.

I was injured, when my back was broken in 1985 resulting in my medical retirement from my job but soon retrained and was back to work within two years. I continued to work until my retirement allowing me to have another operation where I had some metalwork attached to my spine. I then applied myself to the volunteer sector where I was able to continue to push myself. My writing was very much a hobby and something I wanted to do for myself. I get great pleasure from working on a novel and find I can really get inside my characters. To me a book is about escapism, you can lose yourself in the story which is a wonderful feeling.
