Susan Todd graduated from Smith College and is the mother of three grown daughters. She was an elementary school teacher for many years prior to becoming head of the Heath School in Heath, Massachusetts. She was a founding editor of Parents' Choice Magazine and a contributing editor of FamilyFun Magazine. In the early 1960s she was a copywriter for Doyle, Dane, Bernbach Advertising. Her retrospective on Laura Ingalls Wilder appeared in the Atlantic Monthly. Susan and her brother, Robert Bagg, collaborated on a revision of their mother's book, Cooking Without a Grain of Salt.
