Ruth Paget has finished reading all five volumes of A History of Private Life Series edited by Philippe Ariès and Georges Duby and smiled when she read that the elite families of ancient Rome used Tarot cards (Did they use the Egyptian Tarot deck?)
She likes using her foreign language skills and reads Repubblica (italy), Le Monde (France), El Pais (Spain), and Publico (Portugal) newspapers when she has the chance. These newspapers used to be available on Kindle.
Her book reviews have appeared in Voice of Youth Advocates magazine, her art criticism has been published in Art and Antiques magazine, and her business writing has appeared in Commerce in France, and her Global Librarian column appeared in the Bayline Chapter of the Special Libraries Association online newsletter.
Paget lived and worked in Paris, France for seven years. She lived in Japan as an exchange student with the Youth for Understanding International Exchange Program when she was a student at Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Michigan. Paget was a Close Up Foundation high school participant and spent a week in Washington, D.C. as part of the program studying U.S. government.
In 1979, she traveled to the People's Republic of China and later sold sponsorships and did PR for the first Super Bowl broadcast in China. She worked with the Japan External Trade Organization in Chicago to find sponsors for the first city-wide Japan Festival as well.
Paget worked as the Japanese Services Coordinator and Marketing Coordinator in the Communications Department for Deloitte in Paris where she wrote proposals and helped the firm prepare international trade events. She lived in Stuttgart, Germany for five years while writing Europe's Lessons and did long-term stays in Italy. She has also done long-term stays in Belgium and the United Kingdom. Paget began working with Asian businesses at EY in Chicago, Illinois. In high school, she visited Canada on numerous day-trips to improve her French skills and frequently watched CBC news in Detroit to learn more about Canada.
She has had fun being a Waldorf mom, a Junipero Serra School mom, an International Baccalaureate curriculum mom, and Juilliard mom in addition to being a restaurant critic for the Monterey County Weekly (Circulation: 200,000).
She is fluent in French, has spoken and read Spanish for work purposes as a youth services librarian in California, and can read Italian and Portuguese.
