Roger Lane

Roger Lane was born in Dorset and has lived in the county all his life. Following a 44 year career in the aerospace industry he took early retirement in 2004 to pursue his interests in photography and writing.

A keen motor sport enthusiast, Roger was commissioned by Agfa Gevaert in 1968 to photograph the international motor racing scene. These images have resulted in the book 'Out of the Shadows' published by Halsgrove in 2009.

Roger has also produced a number of multi projector audio-visual sequences. 'Steamdream' featured wildlife artist David Shepherd and his fascination for steam railways with commentary by the late Wynford Vaughan-Thomas. 'In Pursuit of Nature' portrayed the life of Claude Monet and his garden at Giverny

His second book 'Gardens of Dorset' was published by Frances Lincoln in 2010.

Photography and writing is now Roger's focus and his coverage of the landscapes of the French impressionists has been widely featured in a number of publications.

A selection of Roger's 1960's images of motor racing's first posthumous world champion Jochen Rindt were also featured in David Tremayne's book 'Jochen Rindt - Uncrowned King' published by Haynes Publishing in 2010 with forward by Sir Jackie Stewart.

Roger's most recent book 'Cranborne Chase - A Secret Landscape' was published by Amberley Publications in June 2015. Written and photographed by Roger with further photography by his long term friend and colleague Roger Holman, it is a photographic journey through one of the south's most atmospheric and historical landscapes. Following the success of the initial publication, Amberley have now published a second issue with some new images. The second issue also carries a dedication to Roger Holman who unfortunately passed away in November 2021 before the latest publication was issued.

Roger is currently extending his photography into the world of fine art including wall art abstracts and images in black and white. He also provides a dedicated photography and image availability service to publishers and authors.
