I don't remember a time when I wasn't writing something. I've been a writer/photographer for over two decades, and a full-time freelancer for nearly six years. I've been fortunate enough to have my work recognized by the Maine Press Association and the New England Outdoor Writers Association. Currently, I am the contract editor/writer of two national downtown revitalization newsletters, the Downtown Idea Exchange and the Downtown Promotion Reporter. I am a regular contributor to Bangor Daily News Special Sections, and North Country - The Journal of Maine magazine. My work has also appeared in the Northwoods Sporting Journal,Game & Fish magazines covering Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania and New England, Bangor Metro and Up North magazines, and at www.OneNewEngland.com. I was a regular weekly contributor to the Highlands Journal newspaper until it ceased operations during the summer of 2012. I am still a contributor to Bangor Daily News Custom Publications.
I am a native of the Pine Tree State and grew up camping, fishing, hunting and exploring in rural Maine. A true Yankee, I am thrifty by both nature and necessity, so it's fun for me to plan interesting vacations that will keep my very diverse family happy while also searching out the best vacation values. Since the Grant clan is made up of campers and non-campers, anglers and non-anglers, golfers and non-golfers, equestrians and non-equestrians, hikers and non-hikers and so on, I am (sometimes painfully) aware of the complexities of creating a family vacation that meets the needs of every family member.
I live in the tiny town of Parkman (a four-corners with a grange hall, country store and church) with my husband, two children, a cat, a tank full of fish, and a bunny named Sam. Traveling with my husband, Gary, and providing Jon, 22 (currently away at college), and Becky, 17, with opportunities to learn and explore is at the top of my list of favorite things to do, just above reading, fishing, hiking, kayaking and photography. I also enjoy baking and gardening, and I've been known to write about everything from community life to photovoltaic batteries.
