Matthew S. Rindge

Matthew S. Rindge is Professor of Religious Studies at Gonzaga University (Spokane, WA) where he teaches "Religion and Film," "Bible and Film," "Life and Teachings of Jesus," "Critics of Christianity," and "Religion and Blackness." He has also taught as an adjunct at Emory University, Columbia Theological Seminary, and in several Asian, European, and Latin American countries.

Dr. Rindge's most recent book is "Bible and Film: The Basics" (Routledge). Previous books include "Profane Parables: Film and the American Dream" (Baylor University Press, 2016) and "Jesus' Parable of the Rich Fool: Luke 12:13-34 among Ancient Conversations on Death and Possessions" (Society of Biblical Literature, 2011).

He has published dozens of articles on Bible and Film, Religion and Film, New Testament, and Hebrew Bible for academic journals and edited volumes, and has written for public outlets such as The Washington Post.

For six years, Dr. Rindge chaired the Bible and Film section in the Society of Biblical Literature. In 2011, he received the Paul J. Achtemeier Award in New Testament Scholarship (which a scholar can receive once in their lifetime), and in 2012 and 2018 he received Gonzaga University Exemplary Faculty awards.
