Nuala Galbari (b. 1953) was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, to Scots-Irish parents. She grew up in Belfast, Cultra, and Helen's Bay, Co. Down, Northern Ireland. She studied hospitality management at the Belfast College of Business Studies and later worked for Grand Metropolitan Hotels and the Marriott Hotels group. She moved to the United States in 1980, living in Miami, FL and Minneapolis, MN, where she studied art and design, before moving to Gloucester, VA in 2005. She is a journalist for Pleasant Living magazine and a contributing editor for Airways magazine.
In addition to storytelling, Nuala is communications coordinator for the International Peace Alliance Council and Marine Environmental Research Corporation (IPAC-MERC)
(www.ipac-merc.com) and also holds the position of Vice President, Flight Services, with the International Institute of Modern Butlers, where she is developing curricula and training programs for airline cabin crews in the disciplines of the British butler. (www.modernbutlers.com)
She is co-owner of Print Media Consulting, a small PR firm that offers copywriting, photography and media relations.
Nuala is currently working with elementary schools in Virginia to bring the story and music of The Woods of Wicomico to life. She presents a one-hour program that includes a short reading from the book, the art of the story in sketch and final illustration and the ballads from the story, along with an environmental presentation. She also works with a performing arts group to bring The Woods of Wicomico to life in a musical play.
In November, 2011, a teachers' Lesson Guide for The Woods of Wicomico will be available to educators.
Nuala is the caretaker of 15 animals, including eight cats, four birds and two rabbits.
