Brett Rushforth has published widely on early modern colonialism, slavery, material culture, legal history, and religion. He is the author of the award-winning _Bonds of Alliance: Indigenous and Atlantic Slaveries in New France_ (2012), named the best book on American social history by the Organization of American Historians and the best book on French colonialism by the French Colonial Historical Society. He is the author, with Christopher Hodson, of _Beyond the Ocean: France at the Atlantic World from the Crusades to the Age of Revolutions_.
Rushforth is Editor in Chief of the _Huntington Library Quarterly_, an early modern studies journal, and history faculty at the University of Southern California. He previously taught at the College of William and Mary and the University of Oregon.
