Mark Stang

Mark Stang is an award-winning author of nine books on major league baseball. His first book, Baseball By The Numbers (Scarecrow Press, 1996) was the definitive guide to M.L. baseball uniform numbers. It won the 1991 SABR/MacMillan Baseball Research award. His subsequent eight titles are all part of an ongoing coffee-table style team photo history series covering various major league baseball franchises. These 8 titles cover the: Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, Washington Senators(1901-1971), Philadelphia Athletics(1901-1954), Philadelphia Phillies and the Boston Red Sox. Each contains more than 225 digitally restored black and white images of players, managers, owners and broadcasters. The first book in this series, Reds in Black and White (RoadWest Publishing, 1999) won the 2000 SABR/Sporting News Research award. In 2006, Sports Collectors Digest chose Athletics Album, a Photo History of the Philadelphia Athletics as the #3 sports book of the year. Stang currently lives in White Bear Lake, MN.
