Sharron Goldman Walker

Sharron Goldman Walker began her experience with education as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the bush of West Africa and has worked as a public school teacher and high school principal for over three decades. Her public school experience extends from kindergarten to twelfth grade in both rural and urban areas. She earned a doctorate in education from the University of Arizona, Tucson.

The schools of which she was principal have won many awards including the United States Department of Education National Secondary Education Award. Instructor magazine featured her as an outstanding principal and she was a Chase Bank Outstanding Principal for the state of Arizona. Dr. Walker has presented workshops nationally on school improvement through democratic methods and written articles about the topic, especially on how principals can use data to improve their schools.

Active in schools as well as her community, Dr. Walker has served as a mayor and police commissioner in a small town in southern California. She has also served on the Board of Examiners for the Governor's Awards for Quality in Arizona.

She and her husband, Virgil, a retired school administrator, live in Mesa, Arizona with their two dogs, Harry and George. Sharron continues to write books about the practice of democracy in public schools... in order to save the Republic.

Her next book, "Avoiding the Demise of Democracy: A Cautionary Tale for Teachers and Principals" will be published by Rowman and Littlefield in December, 2013.
