THE WORLD ACCORDING TO JACK: Most recently Dr Newport is co-author of “The World According to Jack: A Dog’s-Eye View with Self-Help Advice for Other Dogs,” authored by his dog Jack K-9 Newport. (John had a tug-of-war with Jack over the authorship issue and he lost.)

“The World According to Jack” represents a literary milestone as the first known book about dogs in which the dog himself garners full authorship credit. Replete with five chapters FOR DOGS ONLY on “Training Your (Human) Parents” and over 35 full-color photos, this book is a MUST for Dog Lovers! A sampling of other chapters includes: "Why I Wrote This Book", "The Pound", "Jack's Mega-Obsession With Food", "Weight Watchers For Dogs", "Keep Them Laughing", So Now I'm A Marriage Counselor?", "Leave Your Mark On The World", "There's A New Sheriff in Town" and "Grand Finale - Vote for Jack in 2020!" In the final chapter our hero launches his off-the-wall campaign for the presidency. His Motto - "The Country's Going to the Dogs - Let's Make it Official!"

The book is available on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle editions. Amazon visitors can also access background information concerning the senior author by visiting the Author Page for Jack K-9 Newport.

THE TUCSON TRAGEDY: Dr Newport’s goal in writing "The Tucson Tragedy" was to provide an inspirational documentary that portrays the human side of the January 8, 2010 tragic shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and 18 others, the marvelous wave of healing emanating from this tragedy and the lessons to be learned.

This book is the definitive documentary portraying the shooting and its aftermath, and has been featured on CBS KOLD, FOX KMSB and KTTU, and NBC KVOA, together with a BBC documentary televised in Britain. Quoting from the foreword by Rabbi Stephanie Aaron, Congresswoman Giffords’ spiritual advisor, “I was continually impressed by Dr Newport’s ability to take the reader right to the scene and into the hearts and minds of the victims and their families…and everyone else impacted by this painful tragedy… The Tucson Tragedy provides a most inspirational, informative and much needed message for people of all ages and from all walks of life.”

THE WELLNESS-RECOVERY CONNECTION: CHARTING YOUR PATHWAY TO OPTIMAL HEALTH WHILE RECOVERING FROM ALCOHOLISM AND DRUG ADDICTION: In this landmark book, Dr Newport draws upon his work in the addictions field together with his research for his doctorate in psychology, to provide guidance for persons recovering from addiction – together with their families and treatment professionals – on how to strengthen their recovery and add years if not decades to their lives through embracing a wellness lifestyle as an integral component of their recovery.

Following publication of this book, Dr Newport served on a national expert panel charged with developing treatment improvement protocol for integrating health and wellness into recovery from addictive disorders.

Topics covered in The Wellness-Recovery Connection include employing the tools of wellness to successfully navigate early recovery and prevent relapse, enhancing one’s recovery by freeing oneself from addiction to nicotine (a leading cause of death among recovering alcoholics), caffeine and other self-destructive behaviors, and cultivating one’s central purpose, spirituality and life satisfaction – together with two chapters on laying a solid nutritional foundation for lasting recovery.

From the Publishers Weekly Review: “This excellent book would be a fine supplement to any recovery program.”
