David's Bio

David was born in 1960 and raised in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. He learned to love the outdoors by accompanying his dad on trout fishing Trips to the NC Mountains and family fishing trips to W. Kerr Scott Reservoir. The outdoor lifestyle was further ingrained in him by the Boy Scouts where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout shortly before his 14th birthday. During high school David experienced his first taste of international adventure when he and his dad traveled to Canada for a few fishing trips in the wilderness north of Ft. Francis Ontario. After high school David attended and graduated from Lee's McRae College and then North Carolina State University where he joined Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. During his last year in College he met his future wife Janice while she was attending the University of North Carolina. Two weeks after graduating from NCSU he took a job with Lowe's Companies where he worked until retiring in May of 2000. While the job at Lowe's, family life, his marriage to Janice in 1984, and the birth of two daughters one in 1989 and the other in 1993 took most of his time David still managed to find time to get in some hunting and fishing. The time set aside for the annual trip to deer camp and a week on Ocracoke Island for some surf fishing were a chance to get his outdoor fix. After winning a Lowe's contest that sent him on a quail hunting trip to Texas, David discovered his first outdoor passion, upland bird hunting. Within a few years after that trip David started his own private game preserve where he could hunt birds for six months out of the year.

After Lowe's David's love affair with hunting had the time to grow exponentially. He started waterfowl hunting after being introduced to it by his wife's cousin. That first duck hunt soon grew into traveling to various states to hunt and more recently grooming the beaver pond behind his house to be a duck paradise. It was after a missed opportunity to hunt Wyoming that sent David to Africa the first time. Africa was where David discovered his second outdoor passion, hunting Africa. He was so smitten in fact he took three more safaris in the next three years. David immersed himself in Africa learning everything about: the animals, hunting tactics, tracking, trophy judging, safari rifles, and anything else that had to do with hunting Africa. Africa was also responsible for David's third outdoor passion, writing. Keeping a journal of his first trip and his friends' comments about it brought about a desire to write down all of the hunting and fishing adventures that currently consume so much of his time.

While not planning his next adventure or writing about them David keeps busy by: spending quality time with family, managing his preserve, taking care of his six dogs (two English Setters, two Labs, one Golden Retriever, and one Australian Shepard) teaching Sunday school, and Boy Scouts. David also keeps current on African Hunting by attending safari trade shows with his Professional Hunters and other friends.
