Gerald R. Anderson

Gerald Anderson is a retired Naval Officer with 28 years of service. While stationed at U.S. Naval Station at Subic Bay, Philippines for five years, he developed an intense interest in the rich 100-year history of the station, where thousands of American sailors and marines made port calls at this major ship-repair, supply, and rest and recreation base. Subic Bay Naval Station is generally presented in a historical timeline format, with a few breakaway sections that deal with a specific subject matter area which provides the reader with an engrossing, rich glimpse into Subic Bay and its’ history through a period encompassing 400 years. When the Philippine Senate announced in 1991 that it would not extend U.S. military bases in the country, many predicted that the facilities left by the Americans in the former Subic Bay Naval Base would be looted Much to their surprise, the 8,000 volunteers, whom we proudly call the Children of the Sun, proved them wrong. The Americans left behind a $8 billion facility and because of the volunteers, not a single thing was stolen. Gerald has traveled extensively throughout the Philippines and written articles for major travel magazines.
