I am an actor, playwright, director , and professional storyteller based in Harlem , NYC. In these roles I have heard, acted, observed, and told hundreds of stories to thousands of people in settings that include theaters, parks, schools, hospitals, homeless shelters, and even jails.
My plays include : " A Block of Time pt1 - Pigfoot Mary Says Goodbye to the Harlem Renaissance" A verse play set in 1920's Harlem
Memories Of Self - Untold stories of Free Blacks In Brooklyn NY ( Weeksville) 1830 -1918". Using actual documented events, this series of fictional monolouges tells the stories of African Americans who built lives in the face of tremendous odds. Topics covered include escaping slavery, the Draft Riots in NYC , WW1, The Great Migration, Literacy, and Love.
" Shelter : Refugees of the American Dream ". An existential look at family homelessness in a processing center called the EAU"
The Eagle In Harlem and other Urban Tales: Remixed fairy tales, parables, fables, and fictional stories based on Harlem historical events.
A few writing projects in the works:
" Finding Langston Hughes' poems" : A young readers mystery(8-12 years old) about a trio of friends in 1950's Harlem who go on a search for a book lost by their new friend the writer Langston Hughes .
"Sick Secrets " A teen/young adult novel about a high school student who is told ( after years of being kept in the dark) that he is H.I.V positive.How is he supposed to keep this a secret? Is he supposed to? Why did his mother keep this news from him for so long? After a fight at school shortly after, what should he reveal. Each chapter is told from the separate perspective of the teen, his sister, or his mother as the story unfolds.
I also write poems.
