Neil Low

Neil Low spent over 50 years with the Seattle Police Department, retiring after serving seven years as Night Commander. Other roles he served at SPD include command positions in Homicide, Robbery, Gangs, Violent Crimes, Internal Affairs, Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault, Homeland Security Commander, and the first commander of the Ethics and Professional Responsibility Section. Neil currently works as a legal consultant with various law enforcement agencies where he provides advice and direction regarding police procedures. He is also considered an expert on early Seattle history and occasionally leads murder mystery tours through Seattle's Pioneer Square Neighborhood.

Prior to his career in law enforcement, Neil served in the United States Navy and is a Vietnam veteran. He is also a cum laude graduate of the University of Washington's Bothell campus, where he wrote for the school's weekly newspaper, The UW Bothell Commons. After graduation, he served two years as a Trustee for the UW Alumni Association, representing the Bothell Campus, and was chosen as the Distinguished Alumnus for the UW Bothell Campus in 2019.

True-Crime writer, Ann Rule, endorsed Neil's novels, along with former Seattle Police Chief, Gil Kerlikowske (Commissioner of US Customs and Border Patrol -- retired), and Chancellor Kenyon Chan, formerly of the University of Washington's Bothell and Tacoma Campuses. Noted Attorney, Anne Bremner, endorsed Neil's most recent novel, CRAZY LOVE.

Neil's noir-style mysteries, set in 1940's Seattle, were inspired by real-life cold cases. An early reviewer described Neil's writing as reminiscent of Raymond Chandler or Dashiell Hammet, authors Neil admits to admiring. The series features private detectives Alan Stewart and Vera Deward, who work homicide cases with historical/factual connections. To date, there are seven mysteries in the series: Thick as Thieves, Sign of the Dragon, Unreasonable Persuasion, Unholy Alliance, Deadly Attraction, Theater of the Crime, and Wages of Sin.

Neil's eighth novel, CRAZY LOVE, delves into the suspicious death of the Northwest's premier rock legend. Was it a suicide or carefully staged to look like one? Neil has created new characters and will follow up with two more works in progress.
