About the Author Debbie Fletcher

Debbie was Born in Birmingham and played for Birmingham City Ladies during the eighties until she moved to Liverpool in 1989 where she went on to train as a midwife. Debbie then moved to the UAE in 1997 working in Ruwais for a year before moving to Abu Dhabi where she worked for 17 years until 2014 although she travelled as much as she could to watch her beloved Birmingham City play during this time.

Debbie’s first book Truly Blue began with a diary written during her travels in Germany following England in the World Cup Finals in 2006. This inspired her to write about her many exciting adventures following Blues through the years from the 1970’s to 2009 with the book being published in 2010.

In 2014 she returned to England permanently, close to her family, in her home city of Birmingham once again. Debbie’s Birmingham City adventures started again in earnest and a second book was forthcoming titled ‘Forever Blue’ which documented her adventures with a group of likeminded Bluenose from 2010 to 2019. The third book in the series (Our City is Blue) was titled ‘Once A Blue, Always Blue’ and continued the adventures of this group of Bluenoses from 2019 to 2023.

Two stand alone books were also published during this time. ‘The Girls In Royal Blue’ was a history of Birmingham City Ladies and women’s football as well as Debbie’s adventures following the women’s team and her playing days.

‘Still Journey On – 137 Football Grounds’ is a book full of memories from all of the football grounds that Debbie has visited and includes colourful photographs of matchday programs or tickets from the majority of these grounds, many no longer in existence. This was her 5th book about Birmingham City.

Debbie’s 6th book is the 4th in the ‘Our City Is Blue’ series and is titled ‘The Boys in Royal Blue – Sorrows and Joys’ follows the Bluenoses during two defining seasons from 2023 to 2025 and also contains colour photographs of match tickets and programmes. ‘Sorrows and Joy’s’ is an apt description of these two season and the usual rollercoaster ride following the Blues.

Debbie writes for the pleasure of sharing her memories with like minded football fans in the hope that it will spark their own memories of some of these games and reignite the passion of following the football club that is close to your heart.

Keep Right On.
