Christopher J. Probst

Christopher J. Probst teaches courses in Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Washington University in St. Louis and consults Holocaust museums and education centers on exhibit and curricular content. His publications include Demonizing the Jews: Luther and the Protestant Church in Nazi Germany (Indiana University Press, 2012) and “Race, Religion, and the Genocide of the Jews in Nazi Germany,” in The Routledge Handbook of Religion, Mass Atrocity, and Genocide (Routledge, 2022). His research focuses on Protestant views of Jews and Judaism in twentieth-century Germany; he is most interested in how German Protestants viewed Jews and Judaism in the decades before, during and after the Holocaust. His current work considers German history in this era from the perspective of German Jews. He has been a Charles H. Revson Foundation Fellow at the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and a Visiting Scholar at the NYU Center for the Study of Antisemitism.
