James Cox grew up in both the cities and countryside of Michigan where he learned wilderness survival and a variety of now useless urban skills such as driving fast through heavy traffic, tuning an 8 cylinder engine, and escaping street gangs. He received his Ph.D in Psychology from Cornell University during which time he was struck by lightning and entered an alternate reality. Now, like Chang Tzu, reality and dream have become alternative perspectives seen from a broader point of view. X-ray vision and enhanced hearing have both helped and impeded James in his navigation of the various worlds he inhabits. As a result of these experiences, or perhaps to compensate for them, he is a broad spectrum writer. He writes satire and science fiction, poetry and philosophy. You can read excerpts from the sci-fi novel U.R.B., from the prose poetry book, Hiding Behind the Elephant’s Smile, and from the Christmas satirical novel, The Christmas Curmudgeon , at James’ website ─ www.roguework.us. He also directs the Four Winds Daoist Center in Whittier, NC. He is preparing for transition through the practice of meditation, sincere openness to the Way, disciplined self-determination and the cultivation of empty calm, flexible yielding and clear serenity. Ongoing blog posts on Daoist practice occur at www.roguework.us. Repeated dreams have indicated that he will soon pass over into a radically new realm of consciousness. He has published poetry in various journals including Cider Press, Pale House, Silkworm, Pinesong, Barnwood, and the 2009 Paradigm anthology.
