August Flowers

August Flowers is a graduate of San Francisco State University where she earned both a Masters degree in Humanities and a Bachelors degree in Black Studies. Currently, she teaches Humanities at various Community Colleges in the Bay Area.

Prior to teaching Flowers worked as a journalist in print publications. Her love for print media began in high school. Later, as a college student she became editor of the students newspaper, which led to her being selected by the Alameda Naval Air Station to co-edit a newsletter for the military base. Following the completion of her Bachelors degree, she worked for the Black Press: Flowers held the position of Editor for the California Voice Newspaper (recorded to be the oldest Black publication west of the Rockies), she also submitted articles to the Oakland Post Newspaper, but her proudest moment as a journalist, was as researcher for Essence Magazine of New York City.

Her true passions, are the stories she created over thirty years. This one, "Raising Sentry" nagged at her for many years, forcing her to see it through to completion. She is now driven to see all her other stories published.
