Jake Perry

Raised in Wolverhampton, Jake now lives near Edinburgh. His latest book, 'Nights in Gold Satin', a comprehensive history of Wolverhampton Wanderers' celebrated series of floodlit friendlies, was selected as a talkSPORT Book of the Week in November 2025.

"From the very first steps to light up Molineux to the detailed match accounts, the story of Wolves' fabulous floodlit encounters has never been so well documented. Jake Perry has done a superb job in capturing a dazzling era in football history." -- Steve Gordos, former sports editor of the Express & Star, on 'Nights in Gold Satin' (2025).

"Outstanding... No stone has been left unturned in the author’s efforts at shining new light on the set of 1950s fixtures that helped transport Wolves’ name further across the globe than ever before. Much has previously been written about this period and the club’s halcyon days and nights but he has succeeded in placing a lot more in the public domain for the first time." -- David Instone, Wolves Heroes.

"A definitive account of all these games, revealing new information and eye-witness accounts." -- Football Weekends.

"An interesting and perceptive contribution to Scottish cricket history." -- Roy Morgan, Association of Cricket Statisticians and Historians, on 'The Secret Game' (2020).

"Thoughtful and incisive... both Jake and Gary are well known figures on the Scottish cricket scene, and that knowledge and empathy, tempered with a good slice of analytical distancing, allows them to tell the tale with clarity, insight and revelation." -- Sean McPartlin on 'Playing With Teeth', co-authored with Gary Heatly (2022).
